There are two types of visas issued for religious workers, one allows then to adjust their status in the U.S. and the other one is issued temporary which by name suggest does not allow then to adjust their status in the U.S.

R1 Visa and EB-4 visa are the two different types of visas issued for two different purposes.

About 5000 visas are issued annually.

In order to qualify for this visa the Religious worker has to demonstrate that he/she has minimum two years for experience as a Religious Worker and he is indeed involved in religious activities. Once the Petition is approved spouse and children of the religious worker can accompany him/her.

The Spouse and children can not work until they have their own work visa.

If person wish to apply for R1 Visa he can do so, by applying at the U.S. consulate abroad and present required documents.

If person is in the U.S. and wish to change his status he can do so by filing change of Status when he is in the U.S.

There is another way, where the Non Profit making organization can sponsor him by filing petition for such religious worker.

If the petition gets approved his spouse and children also can accompany him.

Proper documentation is required to prove that, the organization is non profit making and the worker is genuinely involved in Religious work.
