The P category covers those entertainers and athletes who can not qualify under the extraordinary ability standard for the O category.
There is other category in which entertainers or athletes may be admitted in the U.S. is the H2-B category which demands Labor Certification.
There are four types of visas as follows:
- P1 Visa: This is issued to athletes or entertainment groups,
- P2 Visa: This is issued to reciprocal Exchange programs where person perform acts under the reciprocal exchange program between the U.S. organization and the foreign based organization,
- P3 Visa: This is issued to culturally unique programs where group is coming to the U.S. for demonstrating the culture, tradition by way of folk, music, theatrical, artistic work. This can be for the purpose of coaching, training or even presenting show in the U.S.
- P4 Visa: This is issued to the spouse and children of the respective P visa holders.
People can apply at the US consulate abroad and also Petition can be filed for these groups by organizations in the U.S.
This type of visa is valid for a period of one year. And this needs to be filed at least six months in advance to avoid any delays.
